Chapter 10
KATIE'S POV

I sat in maths alone. Jake had gone to his own lesson for a change. I was glad, but I kinda missed him. It was nice to have someone to talk to in class.
"Katie?" A voice asked me kindly. Ughh.
"What?" I spat. Oh my god I had just said that to a teacher "I-I mean excuse me miss?"
"Detention. You don't speak to a teacher like that" I picked up my bag and made my way to the front of the class. Miss Foster gave me a detention slip and took me to the detention room. I was looking at the floor ashamed.
"Yay detention buddy" Someone said when she had left the room. "a very pretty detention buddy" He was the only other guy in the class. It was jakes delinquent friends, Ethan. I had seen jake with him before. I smiled a little. Never seen you here before girly"
"Yeah well...."
"What you in for?" He asked. Wasn't that asked to people in prison.
"I was day dreaming and miss called my name and I shouted what?" He burst put laughing. "What?"
"Real rebel"
"Yeah"
"Aren't jakes new girlfriend?"
"What? No. I just live with him"
"You live with him? What are you his sister? I didn't know he had a sister"
"Neighbour actually" He had a totally confused look plastered on his face and I giggled.
"My mom has gone to Antarctica for a few months so I'm living with him until she returns"
"Oh. What's he like to live with?"
"Alright. He's not as bad as I thought"
"Speak of the devil"
The classroom door opened and jake casually walked in.
"What are you doing here?" Jake asked me
"Detention"
"For what? I thought you were a goody two shoes"
"Shouting at a teacher and I thought you were going to go to class"
"I didn't say that I wasn't going to get into trouble" I rolled my eyes. He turned towards Ethan "You alright Eth? How goes detention?"
"Yeah. It's good. I had my detention buddy" He nodded in my detection.
"Already detention buddies?"
"Don't worry. Next detention it will just be you and him" I told jake. There was a short silence.
"So what brings you to detention land?" Ethan spoke up.
"Defiance, being late, back chat, being two faced. Oh and drawing DETAILED pictures on the wall in permeant marker"
"Oh god" I mumbled.
"You should try it sometime princess. It's fun"
"I'd rather not"
"Maybe you should start off small. Wearing jackets to class, headphones in lesson, littering... stuff like that" I rolled my eyes and faced forward. Not looking at either of them.
"So last night?" Ethan asked. "Where were you?"
"Yeah... about that. She got scared so I had to stay in her room" My eyes widened. What?
"What? Liar! You attacked me and wouldn't leave"
"Do you believe that Ethan? She would even lie about it" Jake gave me a smirk
"You got scared?" Oh god!
"What? I wasn't scared. Ughh" I shouted.
"Calm down. i believe you" Ethan said to me. I was still going to kill Jake when we got home.
"You are dead meat jake" I hissed.
"Whatever you say babydoll" He laughed.
"I mean it"
"You can't hurt me. I won't be there next time you get scared"
"Ugh. I didn't get scared. You attacked me. Don't listen to him Ethan" The bell rang. Finally I could leave.
"See you in class babe" Jake shouted.
"Don't call me that" I shouted back
"Bye babe"
"Ugh"
"I'll see you around Katie" Ethan shouted as I walked out of the door.
"Bye Ethan" I smiled.

JAKES POV
I loved it when she was angry. It was hot.
"Jake... Dude... I like her" Ethan smiled. What? "She's really pretty and-" I cut him off
"You can't have her" His head snapped towards me and his smile melted.
"Why not?" He snapped.
"Because...." I started to say but couldn't think of anything.
"What? Why can't I have her?" He was really angry now. You could see the bones in his hands as his clenched his fists. He must really like her. How long had he known her? 20 minutes... Less?
"Because I want her" I half shouted at him.
"Oh and just because you haven't got the balls to ask her out it means I can't?"
"I can ask her out"
"Why don't you?"
"Because..."
"Because you are scared. Ughh. Well you know what... I'm gonna ask her out" He shouted.
"Don't you dare" I told him fiercely
"What are you gonna do jake?"
"I'll ruin your life, publicly" He wouldn't dare ask her now. He had seen what I had done to some people. They had to move countries to get away from it all
"Fine. But I'm still gonna ask her out" what? Ethan picked up his bag and walked out of class, slamming the door behind him.
I slammed my fist against the wall, it crumbled under my touch. My best friend was going to ask the only girl I ever liked out. Yeah. I liked her! I couldn't hide it anymore. The past few days I've had the feeling but I've just pushed it aside. And now she's going to slip right through my fingers. Everyone liked Ethan. Katie sure would too...
I needed to tell her now. Now!
