Hey there, little lady
Can I be your Valentine?
Although I'm pretty certain
You will never be mine
I see you every morning
On the way to school
You hang out with the guys
Who are painfully cool
But I won't let that stop me
I'll be sending you a card
It's easier to write
When what to say's too hard
I'll leave it on your desk
A place you'll eventually go
Signed with just an initial
Suppose you'll never know
My mission is accomplished
I'll just get on with my day
You'll have plenty other Valentines
Anyway...
But tucked into the strap
Of the bag I use for sports
Something papery and homemade
A card of sorts
Giddily, I open it
You've signed your entire name
Oh my silly schoolboy heart
Really is aflame
And you asked for my phone number
With a promise to call
Sometimes the little man
Wins after all
You never used the number
Never kept your promise to ring
But for five precious minutes
It meant everything
I still have the card
Filed oh so carefully away
You really were a little lady
And you made my Valentines Day
