I always knew you would be a pain
Coming into the world back to back
Two weeks of slow labour with you
I was in pain and felt like crap
Once you were placed into my arms
I fell in love with your little old man face
As the night went on, more of you I saw
You were perfect and I knew my place
You never slept for three whole days
Just had little ten minute naps
Little did I know how you would be
'Everything is an experiment' little chap
Oh the things you have done
I really could have written a book
Like cracking an egg on your head
Hanging out the velux to take a look
Emptying all my make up and toiletries
Into the sink and the bath
On many occasions you did this
It cost a small fortune, not a laugh
Then you cut the old trampoline
Making the net totally unsafe
When we bought a new one
You bit chunks out of it, what a disgrace
You've cut your own hair
Squeezed lipgloss onto the butter
You truly have no fear of anything
You're our little feisty nutter
For all your silly little ways
You are such a loving boy
With a vivid and wild imagination
To listen and watch you is a joy
You are so very inquisitive
You have such a very bright mind
I can almost hear the ticking
For an experiment you look to find
Somedays you have had me in tears
For you've exasperated me so
Never being able to take my eyes off you
For what you'd do next, I don't know?
But soon you'll be going to school
The next chapter of your life begins
After all the mischief you've been in
You'd think my heart would sing
But you know what little chap?
My heart feels heavy and sad
My baby boy is going to school
This leaves me feeling sad
For you've been such a character
All who know you tell me so
Taking you to school each day
Is a wrench of which you'll never know
So I have to pack away my sadness
Leave behind all my inner fears
Hold your hand as you go to school
Once you're inside, then I can shed my tears
