RIP Opuss

An albeit beautiful, but copy and pasted Bob Marley quote that took little effort in finding and even less effort to post - 992 "likes".

Someone bares their soul and puts time and effort into crafting and shaping their pain into words - 3 "likes".

Another solid victory for the vapid 'copy and paste' generation of today.

Copy Paste Send, Make This The End

Everything I post is from my own head, Most thought of from the confines of my bunk bed, But what annoys me, and others, no end, Are those who copy, paste, and then send. What is the point.

Right? :( pisses me off. It's so unfair

That's why I love reading peoples stories& like them

The only think I have ever 'liked' in the 'top' lists is a poem written by @fadingfatalities. The endless plagiarists are very annoying.

*thing

That should say @fadingfatality

We love stories and poems and literature and working hard to refine our algorithms to prioritise and feature unique and original content. Growth has been phenomenal and we are constantly working to make it the best place for readers and writers to share

I find that unfair. I also work hard writing poems and stories and they dont get noticed.

I think the word 'generation' is a little harsh. There are plenty of people in our generation that object to this plagiarism and put time and effort into words just like you.

I agree with you, but the bob Marley quote was interesting and I wouldn't know about it otherwise.

@Kinuthia I completely agree. That post does not deserve so many likes, as many have posted it before, the originals need to get noticed.

I sincerely want worthwhile original thoughts to be prioritised.

Right on.

True as true can be

Correct, and sad, so sad.

There should be a different section for them, I like to read them they make me smile but should not compete against true creativity!

Can I just point out something - the person who posted the top of the year quote has been writing

Quite a lot of original content and also how

Many people who have commented on this have liked quotes and jokes. There is no

"Copy and paste" generation. I myself am only 13 and, yes i do, enjoy reading quotes. But I also love reading (and writing) original content. Do not assume that you and your "generation" are better than any other just because you don't happen to enjoy quotes. The number of likes doesn't matter! It's how you feel about it! [Rant over]

Sorry about the multi-comments thing

There is nothing wrong with posting quotes or liking them and I apologise if I have offended anyone. I just find it incredibly sad that so many heart felt and beautiful words languish in obscurity while a quote has been given so much appreciation. If people are looking for inspirational quotes there are hundreds of sites that offer this service. I was just hoping Opuss would be more than that. But it clearly isn't.

Opus is merely a tool. It is how it is used that really matters.

There's room for both. As long as no one passes the words of others as their own.

Here here.

I LOVE OPUSS!!! BEST APP EVER

@overskill grow a pair. Quote liking is for stumbleupon.com @pchinnery has made a valid point, and has at no point taken a higher ground.

This is soo true !

Okay look I found this little quote on the Internet and I posted it on here cuz I thought it really ment something. I had no freakin idea it was gonna get over 1,000 likes. And it's not my fault it did! You don't think I pour my heart and soul into the rest of my stories?!?!? It's little things like this that pisses me off because again I had no idea this was gonna happen! I'm tired of people bad mouthing me on here it's pretty much the main reason why I'm leaving! So just chill. It's jut an innocent little quite on the Internet. I posted it and now everybody hates me because it got so many likes! It's not like I thought it was gonna get this many likes. I figured maybe 16 likes so just gimme a freakin break and chill thr fuck out!!!!!!!👿

Oh and at least I gave credit where it was due unlike a lot of others!

@pchinnery guess what there's a section for quotes!

@overskill thank you. I'm only twelve and I feel the same way!

It's not like Shannon could control how many likes she got! Don't be slamming on her for how many likes she gets. It's just an amazing quote of the amazing Bob Marley, and you should just get over it.

@Iliveforyou you've misunderstood me and perhaps that is my fault. I don't blame you one little bit for posting that quote. The words were beautiful and I'm glad you shared them. The last thing I want is for you to feel bullied and I'm sorry if I played any part of that. My point was that it is such a shame that quotes seem to be more appreciated than original work, and that includes yours. I've read some of your posts and it is very good and shows maturity. I want that sort of work to shine here. I hope you can forgive me if I've hurt you and genuinely hope you stay and continue writing.

@pchinnery yeah well you kinda did... A lot. Just look at all my hate comments now. Words make people cry. So think about that next time you post something like this.

The girl that actually made top of the year is my best friend on and off oppus. I'm not saying that you are wrong, I completely agree with you. And you do have a point; quoted phrases do get more likes then poems or stories that are original.

Sad but true story

Freedom of choice my friends nothing wrong with sharing a quote if others enjoy it. It doesn't take away from anyone's work they will either love it or hate no matter what others are posting As long as you state your source I've no issues with it

@Iliveforyou you shouldn't leave people have freedom of choice to post what they like. A quote from another doesn't stop me from liking original stories or poetry. Thus those complaining just appear insecure to me. Opuss is for all sort of writing some of us like quotes, old and new so don't be chased away :-)

We have the 'like' button and the 'comment' button - maybe @Seamonster could introduce another button for quotes etc.
